ReaderBackdrop is a free, community-driven gallery of e-reader screensavers and e-ink wallpapers. It is for Kindle, Kobo, Boox, PocketBook, reMarkable, and KOReader sleep screens — not phone wallpapers.

## Product facts

- Browsing and downloading do not require an account.
- Uploading, favorites, public creator profiles, and API keys require a free account (email, Google, or Discord).
- Images are community-uploaded JPG/PNG files, typically portrait and high-contrast for e-ink.
- NSFW images can be blurred or hidden; they are tagged `nsfw`.
- There is a native KOReader plugin feed authenticated with a personal API key (`Authorization: Bearer <apiKey>`).

## How to set a custom screensaver

### Kindle (no jailbreak)

Amazon does not provide a screensaver folder. The no-jailbreak method:

1. Remove Special Offers (ads) from the Kindle so Display Cover appears.
2. Settings → Device Options → enable Display Cover.
3. Convert a high-contrast portrait wallpaper into an EPUB (Send-to-Kindle) or AZW3 (Calibre) whose cover is the image.
4. Open that dummy book, then press power. The cover stays as the lock screen while it is the most recently opened item.

### Kobo (firmware 4.13+, no jailbreak)

1. USB-connect the Kobo and show hidden files.
2. Create `.kobo/screensaver` — lowercase, singular, no spaces.
3. Copy JPEG or PNG files sized to the native panel.
4. Settings → Energy saving and privacy: enable Show current read and Show book covers full screen.
5. Open a book, then sleep the device. A book must be open or the firmware falls back to the default sleep screen.
